Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan addresses climate change through water conservation, restoration of water bodies, greener energy, afforestation, and sustainable agricultural practices.

The programme brings together fifteen state government departments under one umbrella, with the Rural Development Department serving as the nodal department.

Groundwater Progress

According to the Dynamic Ground Water Resources Assessment of India 2022, Bihar's annual groundwater recharge increased from 28.05 to 33.14 billion cubic metre compared with 2020.

Annual extractable groundwater resources increased from 25.46 to 30.04 billion cubic metre, with the report specifically crediting Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan.

Green Cover

The Forest Survey of India report 2022 reported a 1.03 percent increase in Bihar's forest cover in 2021 compared with 2019.
